La metodología se basa en entrevistas abiertas a personajes clave que han participado activamente en la forja de grupos deportivos que son apoyados por fanáticos del deporte en Tepatitlán, Jalisco, México; se pone bajo relieve el marco teórico proporcionado por la teoría sociológica de Bourdieu para exponer y debatir los resultados. Las conclusiones dan luz sobre dos aspectos particulares: de cómo la influencia económica ha moldeado a la fanaticada, y de cómo de manera simultánea se han creado mitos sobre esa influencia económica. Su originalidad consiste en que constituye el primer trabajo de análisis sociológico en la región sobre aspectos deportivos. Abstract What is presented here is the result of a qualitative research of an economic-sociological nature and its main objective is to describe the influences that shape the passion for soccer in a municipality in wes-tern Mexico. The methodology is based on open interviews with key figures who have actively participated in the forging of sports groups that are supported by sports fans in Tepatitlán, Jalisco, Mexico; the theoretical framework provided by Bourdieu’s sociological theory is highlighted to present and discuss the results. The conclusions shed light on two particular aspects: how economic influence has shaped the fan base, and how myths about that economic influence have been simultaneously created. Its originality consists in the fact that it constitutes the first work of sociological analysis in the region on sports aspects. The handiest are those from anthropology and social sciences in general, however, the economic perspective has become a good option as it offers various tools and allows the analysis of aspects that sometimes are not dedicated special interest. The aim of this paper is to describe what were the theories commonly used in regional studies and propose an economic vision as an alternative to extend the range of academic opportunities that engage in research. Social and economic sciences’ tools are not new in regional studies, they are almost as old as sociology and the same with economy, and howeverthey have specialized in different branches. What is presented below is the description of these derivations and ownership of different objects of study that makes each.
