Peregrinaciones y turismo religioso en Tepatitlán, Jalisco: una propuesta de análisis para evaluar la gestión del territorio y la conservación del patrimonio arquitectónico

Abstract

Resumen: El culto al Señor de la Misericordia tiene sus orígenes en la primera mitad del siglo XIX en Tepatitlán de Morelos (ciudad de Jalisco, México) y ha pervivido, a través del tiempo, por los fuertes flujos de viajeros peregrinos y un incipiente turismo religioso. Aunque las distintas peregrinaciones han ido evolucionando, tradicionalmente se han mantenido motivadas por la fe. Este grupo de personas, ya sea por cuestiones espirituales y de fervor religioso, acude para visitar sitios históricos patrimoniales como el Santuario del Señor de la Misericordia y las distintas parroquias de la ciudad durante las festividades, celebraciones litúrgicas y fiestas patronales. Lo anterior se refleja por una devoción creciente de exvotos que se colocan en los templos, como parte de una tradición cultural de los fieles locales y de los viajeros. Esta situación genera una fuerte apropiación cultural y religiosa por parte de los peregrinos y de los residentes del municipio; también, impactos ambivalentes y transformaciones que banalizan la herencia inmaterial local y afectan el patrimonio urbano arquitectónico, así como las rutas de peregrinación de la localidad y el municipio. En este contexto, el trabajo pretende analizar la evolución histórica de las peregrinaciones y valorar el papel que han tenido el patrimonio arquitectónico y las festividades patronales en su desarrollo (1839-2019). También se busca caracterizar y diferenciar el turismo religioso del turismo de peregrinaciones que se desarrollan en Tepatitlán, para identificar cuál ha tenido la mayor repercusión hasta este momento en el espacio y en la arquitectura patrimonial. El trabajo se desarrolla a partir de una investigación de tipo cualitativa con un enfoque descriptivo.

Abstract: In Tepatitlán de Morelos, a medium size city in Jalisco state (Mexico), the cult to El Señor de la Misericordia (Lord of Mercy) has its origins since mid nineteen century and it has survived through time, causing pilgrim travel and religious tourism. Although the pilgrimages have changed, they have developed and increased. This amount of people whom comes by faith, also visit heritage elements such as the Sanctuary and the different churches, within the festivities such as liturgical and cultural celebrations. Those situations generate a strong bond between the residents and the pilgrims with the built and intangible heritage, also causes some, both, positive and negative effects like the trivialization of the festivity and often loss of the sense in holy celebrations. This article aims to analise the historical evolution of pilgrimages and assess the role of architectural heritage and the religious cults have had in their development (1839-2019). It also seeks to name and differentiate religious tourism and pilgrimage tourism, to identify which one has had or continues to have the greatest impact on the city as in the territory. The work develops with a qualitative research and a descriptive approach.
