Representaciones sociales del género masculino. Un estudio entre jóvenes bachilleres de Tepatitlán, Jalisco

Abstract

RESUMEN El presente trabajo tuvo por objetivo reconocer la estructura de las representaciones sociales en torno al género masculino por parte de hombres jóvenes. La muestra quedó conformada por 177 bachilleres, todos ellos habitantes de la localidad de Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco (México) y con una edad promedio de 16.74 años. Se aplicó un cuestionario de asociación libre en el que se pidió a los participantes evocar una lista de cognemas asociados a la palabra hombre para posteriormente jerarquizarlos en orden de importancia en relación con la palabra estímulo. Se realizó un análisis prototípico de importancia-frecuencia. Se encontró que los hombres representan a su propio género con representaciones favorables y positivas dadas a través de los cognemas trabajador, honesto, responsable, amable e inteligente; también se encontraron elementos que hacen referencia a la incorporación del discurso moderno de la equidad. No obstante, de igual manera fueron evidentes las representaciones que refieren a los estereotipos típicos del género masculino, reflejados a través de los cognemas trabajador, responsable, machista, caballeroso y fuerte. ABSTRACT This qualitative study aimed to recognize the structure of social representations around the male gender by young men. The sample was made up of 177 high school students, all of them from the town of Tepatitlán, Jalisco (Mexico), and with an average age of 16.74 years. A free association questionnaire was administered in which the participants were asked to evoke a list of cognemas associated with the word "man" and subsequently rank them in order of importance in relation to the word stimulus. A prototypical analysis of importance-frequency was performed. It was found that men represent their own gender with favorable and positive representations through the cognemas of hardworking, honest, responsible, kind, and intelligent; there were also elements that refer to the incorporation of the modern discourse of equity. However, the representations that refer to typical stereotypes of the male gender were also evidently reflected through the cognemas of hardworking, responsible, male chauvinist, gentlemanly, and strong.
