La universidad en México ante la sociedad del conocimiento

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se reflexiona sobre el papel que juega la Universidad en México ante los retos que le impone la sociedad del conocimiento. En primer término se presenta un breve desarrollo histórico de la universidad como institución que tiene sus orígenes en la época medieval y a la cual históricamente la sociedad le ha encomendado y reconocido la tarea de generar, transmitir y difundir el conocimiento. Posteriormente se aborda el tema de la sociedad del conocimiento, por la que entenderemos “a aquellas sociedades en las que los esquemas clásicos de producción, difusión y aplicación del saber habrán expe-rimentado un cambio profundo” (UNESCO, 2005). En el siguiente apartado se reflexiona sobre el rol de la universidad en este nuevo contexto. Para finalizar con un breve análisis sobre la forma en que las universidades mexicanas han enfrentado esta nueva situación. In this paper we examine the role of the university in Mexico to the challenges impo¬sed by the knowledge society. First is a brief historical development of the university as an institution that has its origins in medieval times and which historically society and recognized entrusted the task of generating, transmitting and spreading knowle¬dge. Subsequently the subject of the knowledge society is discussed establishing understand “those societies in which the classical patterns of production, dissemina¬tion and application of knowledge have experienced a profound change” (UNESCO, 2005). In the next section we examine the role of universities in this new context. To conclude with a brief discussion about how Mexican universities have faced this new situation.
